Parking and transport
There is limited on-street parking at meters on Customhouse Quay, and a Wilson Parking facility under the TSB Arena, accessible off Jervois Quay. There are mobility parking spaces opposite the rear of the Gallery next to TSB Arena. Please contact the Gallery ahead if you require a parking pass for accessibility.
Find the best way to get to us by bus or train by planning your journey via the Metlink website. The New Zealand Portrait Gallery Te Pūkenga Whakaata is 550meters from the Wellington Railway Station. The closest bus stops are on Featherston Street and Lambton Quay 250meters.

The Gallery is free to enter. You are welcome to make a donation.
There is step-free access throughout our building.
We have a wheelchair on-site available for use while you are in the gallery, please ask at reception.
The Gallery is all on one level.
The entrance has sliding glass doors followed by push/pull glass doors.
There is low seating throughout the Gallery.
An accessible gender neutral toilet is available at the back of the Gallery.
Some exhibitions require lower lighting levels for the protection of the artworks this will be noted on the exhibition page.
Some exhibitions include looping sound this will be noted on the exhibition page.
Our labels are large print throughout our exhibitions.
You can collect a large print physical copy of the exhibition text from the front desk upon your arrival.
Assistance animals are welcome.
We have a whānau (family) space at the back of the Gallery with seating and a space to do a creative activity.
